Morrison,
a rookie forward from Gonzaga, overcame an 0-for-5 first half,
finishing 10-for-19. He scored 13 consecutive points for Charlotte late
in the fourth quarter. His 3-pointer started the streak and brought the
Bobcats to within 88-87 with 4:52 left, and his runner from the
baseline with just more than a minute remaining gave Charlotte a 97-90
lead.
Matt Carroll
added 20 points and
Gerald Wallace
had 18 for the Bobcats, who won their third straight game. Charlotte,
last in the Southeast Division, improved to 9-18 on the road.
Kevin Garnett
had 22 points and 11 rebounds to record his NBA-leading 47th
double-double for the Timberwolves, who lost their second consecutive
game and fell to 3-7 in their past 10.
Mike James
added 17 points in a reserve role for Minnesota, which lost the opener
of a key five-game homestand. The Timberwolves' next four games are
against division leaders.
James scored 15 points in the second quarter to help Minnesota to a 58-45 halftime lead.
Minnesota fell to 16-10 at Target Center and dropped to 5-9 under interim coach Randy Wittman, who took over after Dwane Casey
was fired Jan. 23.
The
Bobcats trailed by 17 points late in the second quarter and by 13
midway through the third before making a comeback behind Morrison. The
first-year forward scored eight straight points late in the third
quarter to pull Charlotte within 78-74. |
